Accessibility statement for Social Care Wales

Introduction

Social Care Wales is committed to ensuring digital accessibility for all users, including people with disabilities. We are continually improving the user experience and applying the relevant accessibility standards to ensure our website is as accessible as possible

Compliance Status

This website is designed to comply with the Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 at the AA level. These guidelines explain how to make web content more accessible for people with disabilities and more user-friendly for everyone.

Accessibility Features

To ensure our website is accessible, we have implemented the following features:

  • Text alternatives for non-text content, such as images and icons
  • Keyboard navigability for interactive elements
  • Consistent and predictable navigation across the site (aiding keyboard navigation)
  • Adjustable text sizes and contrast settings
  • Support for screen readers and other assistive technologies (Dragon Naturally Speaking, JAWS, NVDA and VoiceOver)
  • Clear and simple language to aid understanding.

AbilityNet has advice on making your device easier to use if you have a disability.

Non-Accessible Content

Despite our best efforts to ensure accessibility, some areas of our website may not yet fully meet WCAG 2.2 standards. We are actively working to improve these areas, including:

  • Some PDF documents may not be fully accessible to screen reader users. The accessibility regulations do not require us to fix PDFs or other documents published before 23 September 2018 if they’re not essential to providing our services
  • Third-party content and embedded elements may have accessibility limitations
  • Some users may not be immediately aware of on-screen content updates, such as status changes (e.g. ‘Your application has been cancelled’), search filter adjustments, or expanding content sections. We are exploring ways to enhance notifications and improve user awareness of these updates
  • For security reasons, the website includes a timeout feature that logs users out after a period of inactivity. Currently, there is no advance warning before this happens. We recommend saving your progress regularly
  • There are some instances where HTML tags may be read out by NVDA software, and we are working to correct this.

Disproportionate Burden

At this time, we have not encountered any items that would be considered a disproportionate burden. We remain committed to improving accessibility and are actively working with our suppliers to address the identified errors.
