Becoming a registered social care worker
Becoming a registered social care worker
Overview
To work in social care in Wales, you must be registered with us.
Registration shows you meet the standards needed to work safely and professionally in these roles.
All social care workers have six months from the start date of their role to register with us. This is a legal requirement.
To register you need to:
- intend to work in Wales
- have someone in your workplace willing to endorse your application
- have discussed any health conditions with your employer if it's something that might impact your ability to practise effectively
You must not:
- be barred from working with children or adults
- be on the Sex Offenders Register
- have any of the serious convictions or orders listed on the page
- be under investigation by your employer, another regulator, or the police. While an investigation is ongoing, you cannot show suitability for the Register. You might be able to apply once it has ended.
You pay a fee to apply. If you apply without being suitable, you may lose your fee.
